I started to unpack, but then I found this hat I bought on vacation. Now I’m wearing it while unpacking, except I’m not really unpacking, I’m blogging.

My family is fostering a sibling group of 7 (read: seven) puppies. Their mama isn’t feeding them, so we are. Every four hours. These pit bull puppies may look adorable, but please be thankful the internet doesn’t communicate smell. They’re newborns. And you can’t diaper them.

Bottle feeding puppies is hard. So my task during all of this is to convince the family’s 3-legged pit bull to lactate.

And this may or may not be an appropriate time to tell you I killed a squirrel yesterday. With my car. While traveling 55 miles per hour.

So to be fair, since I started the contest without a favorite, I threw everyone’s names into a pile and picked one. The winner of the drawing happened to guess #3. And she also happened to be the subject of a possible, future post I had floating around my head. Way to go, Whitney. You’re batting a thousand right now.

Instead, he gave me an inappropriate Arabic word. Which I said. Without hesitation. As another Egyptian staff member walked up behind me.

His reaction told me that what I had just said was not what I was looking for in my bilingual studies.

I was mortified.

1) I do not own a cat

2) I am deathly allergic to cats

3) Yes, that is a dead bird

4) I hope it’s gone when I get home later tonight

- My hair is driving me nuts. I got it into my head to grow my bangs out and I’m at the point where I daily contemplate shaving my head in rebellion of the wildness hanging out on my cranium. I want so much to be free of fussing with my bangs on an hourly basis, but it seems that the growing-out processs is rougher than I anticipated. I’m not even convinced that I’ll look good sans-bangs.  Blegh.

- Spring is here(ish). We don’t get spring up here. We get mud season, sprinkled with just enough warm days to get us thoroughly frustrated with the cold days. Every year, this time of the twelvemonth makes me frustrated enough to want to exercise. This year I’ve built up the frustration discipline to actually run. I’ve found that I love it. Weird.

- The four people I spent the most of my time with are going on vacation this week. Together. Without me. While I’m ok with them leaving me behind, what in the world am I going to do with myself while they’re gone?

- I’m pretty sure that as much as I hate 6 months of winter and wishy-washy spring mixed with black flies, I’m really going to miss the Adirondacks.

- I cannot wait for Mat Kearney’s new album to come out. Cannot. Wait. Watch the video with me.

Well, if you don’t hear from me this week, it’s because I’m be outside with my bangs pinned back, running; possibly to Mat Kearney. It’s supposed to be beautiful.
