I didn’t go to Chicago to visit, tour or even take photos. I went to work, so the photos I did take were a wee bit limited in 1) time 2) location. My weary, workin’ feet didn’t take me far, but I did have fun with the resources I chose to work with.

The Great Tooth Adventure

So during my holiday in Chicago, I was chewing a piece of gum given to me by my friend; it was the kind with the hard outer shell that crunches in your mouth for a bit. After a few minutes of chewing I pulled something too hard to chew out of my mouth and discarded it, thinking something was wrong with the gum and the outer shell wasn’t crunchable. Later on, I felt a deep crevice in the back of one of my molars. I had lost a filling!

I wasn’t in pain; I was more or less fascinated with a new hole in my mouth. I’m sure my friends were a little sick of hearing about it while we were strolling around the city. So I decided to stop complaining, and started documenting:

We passed the American Dental Association! Unfortunately, it was Saturday, so even if I had worked up the gall to walk in there, I couldn’t have.

Kit was a great sport throughout the whole ordeal. Nothing but sympathy from that guy…

This was actually a blessing in disguise. I have been putting off making a dentist appointment since I moved up here 2.5 years ago, and this was almost as if the Lord said, “if you won’t do it, I’ll do it for you.” So I called the dentist when I got back and they fit me in that afternoon. When the Dr. looked at the tooth he said, “I see no signs of a previous filling here; this is all cavity.” I was wrong in my self-diagnosis; apparently, I had a cavity so large that it broke my tooth apart. How embarrassing.

All is well now, though. After the emergency patch-job on Wednesday, I went in on Friday to have it drilled. He even matched the filling with my tooth color just in case someone were to look at my back molar. At first thought, I figured matching the color was a bit silly, but then I remembered that I’m the type of girl who takes pictures of her teeth in someone else’s car while she’s on vacation.

I was in Chicago last weekend for what I was describing to people as a little R&R. But, it was more like a little walk&walk. I had a fantastically awesome time in Chi-town, but I’m very tired. There are many, many stories that I’ll share with you soon, but for now I just have photos.
