Some friends and I have all started a 30 things to do before we turn 30 list. Here is mine, in no particular order:
- spend a whole day reading a great novel
- learn to ballroom dance properly
- learn to design for the web (the thought of this one makes me sick, but must be on this list or I’ll never do it)
- go on an overnight camping trip
- make an entire outfit for someone else
- roast my own coffee
- go to a vineyard
- learn to tie a bow tie
- see Dave Barnes in concert
- have my photo taken by a professional photographer
- give blood
- come up with a favorite movie list
- go to a national conference
- Conquer Mother of Pearl (an outdoor climbing route in NY)
- travel to Africa
- hike an Adirondack high peak
- get a real massage
- finish reading all the Sherlock Holmes stories
- publish a book
- play a hockey game with full pads
- make a dress for myself
- see the northern lights
- ask a stranger if I can take their picture
- see a ballet
- learn to ride a horse
- sell a photograph
- make my own Memphis-style barbecue
- start a freelance photography business
- produce a full-length album
- pay off my debt
My plan is to post about them all as I finish them, complete with pictures. Keep your eyes peeled.

If anyone wants to suggest a book to read, I’m open to suggestions.
BLUE LIKE JAZZ! I love that one ha ha!
Hey. Just a thought…my mom has horses. I’m sure she’d love to teach you to ride. Then we can go back to the ADK’s and spend the weekend in the high peaks!
Again…just a thought.
These are older books, but ones I had trouble putting down: The Charm School by Nelson DeMille;
Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody, William Hoffer; Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. These are all gripping stories. #1 and #3 are novels, #2 is a true story which I read without stopping. Other novels that are very easy to read but super enjoyable, are the books in The Mitford Series by Jan Karon. The titles were not appealing to me and I only read them b/c a friend forced me to bring them to NY one summer and it had rained and rained and I had read EVERYTHING ELSE in the house first. But I thoroughly enjoyed each one, reading each one almost non-stop.
The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery….an enchanting 1926 novel….totally a classic, but not well known at all. You could read it in a long day… a rainy day and a good cup of coffee and a pair of comfy pjs. :O)
P.S. The main character’s name is Valancy…..if that shouldn’t intrigue you enough…..
you could accomplish #22, #25 and probably #26 here in Alaska…heck, I’ll buy one of your pictures from you!
